Threadz Bowstrings To Dub Or To Sub

Reading to dub or sub? would like to discover what method of translating a film is better. there are two main ways to translate a film: dubbing or subtitling. dubbing is when the original voice actors threadz bowstrings voice is replaced by another actor in the language of the audience. subtitling translated text on the screen in the language of the audience. i grew up in southern california, the heart of hollywood. i was accustomed to watching tv shows and movies in their original form – english. if i were to watch a foreign film, which i did often, i’d watch it naturally in the original narration with english subtitles.

I love the feeling of being taken in other cultures, other languages. my whole perception of what television has changed since i was 19-year-old living in spain. surprisingly to some, but this is the first time i realized threadz bowstrings that my language – american english – is the dominant language in tv and movies. most of the shows and movies to the spanish watch from my neighborhood! even homer simpson speak spanish in spain. because it is an animated tv show, “the simpsons” is kind of cute in spanish. but then, when i watched “mission impossible” and i heard tom cruise in a spanish voice actor, i can not stand the idea of ??dubbing.

Threadz bowstrings – Why Dubs Are So Hated

The origins of dubbing is history: the case of spain, germany, italy and spain, like germany, italy, and france, prefer to dub american movies and tv shows instead of subtitles on them. it was a decision made by their government back in the 1920s and early 1930s when overseas production is first imported. think about it: the four countries are some of the largest in europe, therefore, they had a larger audience that will make the high cost of dubbing potential worth. dubbing is more expensive than subtitling and takes more time and resources.

Voice dubbing was also chosen by spain, italy, and germany as a form of censorship back in the 1930s. at this time, threadz bowstrings these three countries are run by dictators – franco, mussolini, and hitler – is not foreign influence brought to their country. also, the example of spain, franco wanted to “encourage” speak basque, catalan and galician to learn spanish, the national language. to this day, the films in local languages ??is dubbed in spanish, no subtitles when shown in other parts of spain. at present, dubbing the country remains the norm, but the use of subtitling is growing rapidly.

This is mainly due to lower costs and faster turnaround times, but also because the younger generation will have better literacy skills as well as more global knowledge and desire. more and more young people understand english and want to see the english programming in its original language with subtitles in their native language. the subtitling standard dubbing vs. “subbing” a good thing i can think about dubbing is that it allows the viewer to be more relaxed while watching the program, because they do not quickly read subtitles. if you are tired from a long day, subtitles can not be relaxed.

Also, it should be used for children’s programming as they do not have the literacy skills needed for subtitles. on the other hand, is usually called programming distracting, unless you are accustomed to, because often the audio does not match the movement of the mouth completely. although, i have to admit that in spain, they often do a good job matching the new audio to the original video. overall, the acting is worse than the original and often seems to be quite different. you do not get the same feel for the film as you would in the original language.

I’m telling you this from my experience watching the same film in two languages ??which i am fluent. i can come up with many examples to illustrate this, but a recent example is the film i just watched, “vicky christina barcelona.” for those of you who have not seen the movie, two americans and two spaniards as the main character in the film. the dubbed version, all four of them speak spanish. in the original version of the two spanish actors talk to the american english with a spanish accent. also, the americans will act confused when two spaniards argue in spanish.

Does not get portrayed in the spanish dubbed version. not to mention the two spanish actors in the film, penelope cruz and javier bardem do make their own dubbing in spanish version. for the spanish audience was really awkward because they know the real voices of two actors. on the other hand, subtitled versions allow for the viewer to hear the true voice actors and hear the original and best soundtrack. if the viewer has some knowledge of the original language, they can also learn more and pick up more by listening to a language and another.

So, come to that, i should dub or sub? there is really no cut and dry answer for this. if you are a producer, with a low budget, definitely subtitle your projects. you can get good quality for fraction of the cost of a poorly dubbed project. if you choose to dub, you must be prepared to pay top dubbing agency to hire great actors to get a quality program dubbed. if they are inexpensive, weary, as good actor charging high prices. ask them if you can view a recent project they did before you contract with them. either way, if you are distributing in spain, germany, italy, or france will get a more satisfied audience and potentially more viewership to dub you.

All in all, know your audience, know your budget, and either way, make sure you get the translation of your movie done well.
